History
Juan García Barceló was born in Vilafranca del Penedés in 1918. After graduating in Chemistry in 1943, he fully dedicated his activity to the field of oenological research, undertaking his career at the INIA - National Institute of Agronomic Research. In the following years, García Barceló completed his career in the analytical field working at the Institute of Industrial Fermentations of the Juan de la Cierva Patronage and at the Vilafranca del Penedés Oenological official center (now INCAVI - Institut Català de la Vinya i el Vi) in addition to act as technical advisor for various companies in the sector.
During the fifties, Juan García Barceló began to combine his work within the analytical field with his other great passion, electronics, through which he developed and manufactured pH meters, colorimeters, conductivity meters and photometers, among other analog laboratory instruments created under the Meteor brand. It was from the seventies on that García Barceló began to publish referential works and writings on analytical oenology. Highlights in this regard are ‘Wine and derivatives analysis methodology’ from 1976, ‘The winery and wine’ from 1982 and ‘Analytical techniques for wines’ from 1990.
It was in 1975, already 57 years old, that Juan García Barceló decided to start and found his own company together with his son Joan X. Garcia Batlle. With GAB, father and son create an alliance that makes them pioneers in the development of specific methods and reagents for wine analysis.
At present, GAB Sistemática Analítica SL has managed to remain one of the leading companies in the sector thanks, in part, to the new vision of the future provided by Lluís García Ferrero, the third generation of the family that joins the organization chart of the company. At the age of 28, and after completing an engineering degree and an MBA, Garcia Ferrero has dedicated himself to renewing and modernizing those instruments created by his grandfather, to meet the needs of the current market and continue to grow both nationally and internationally with new equipment and methodologies.
